INSTRUCCIONES A LOS AUTORES

 

  Submission Preparation

Articles can be written in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The maximum length of the work is 26 pages, including a cited bibliography, tables, figures and legends.

Authors are obliged to verify compliance with the rules before submitting their works to the editorial committee. Articles that do not comply with the rules will be returned to the authors.


Authorship

We understand that all the authors listed in the manuscript have actively participated in the planning, development, writing and planning of the submission, and are responsible for the content, during and after publication.
 

Format and Style

Papers must be prepared in a word processor (with DOC or DOCX extension), using a 12 pt. "Arial" font, and double spaced, with 3 cm page margins. All pages must be numbered.

The manuscript must be presented with the following structure and in the following order:

a) Title: in capital letters, except for scientific names that follow international nomenclature, must be left-justified.

b) Authors' names and affiliations: first name (indicated by the first initial in capital letters), surnames (capital letters), author affiliation with superscript in Arabic numerals.

c) Authors' data: Institution (s) where the authors work, with the complete address and e-mail of the main author (s) for correspondence.

d) Summary: a maximum length of 250 words, succinctly stating the objectives of the research, analytical or observational methods, the main discoveries or results and the main conclusions, emphasizing important aspects of the study or observation. The scientific names of species and Latin terms must be in italics.

e) Keywords: Three to five terms or words must be provided after the abstract. For works submitted in Portuguese or Spanish, include three to five key words in English or key words after the abstract.

f) Title in English: Left-justified, in capital letters, scientific names in the title must be written according to the international taxonomic nomenclature. The title in English must be placed before the abstract.

g) Abstract: For works in Spanish or Portuguese, an English summary/abstract must be included. For works submitted in English, include a summary in Spanish.

h) Introduction: It should emphasize the purpose of the study and provide a summary of the relevant previous studies, in addition to specifying the advances that the research intends to achieve. It should not include data or conclusions of the work in question.

i) Material and Methods: A clear and concisely summarized explanation of the procedures carried out that can allow the for study to be repeated by other researchers must be included. Standardized techniques can be referenced without further elaboration. The units of measurements and their abbreviations will follow the International System and, when necessary, a list with the abbreviations used must be included. Witness material (vouchers) must be deposited in one or more scientific collections and reported in the manuscript. Legal and Ethical Aspects: When describing experiments involving or related to humans, indicate the Ethics Committee by which the work was approved (Ministry of Health) and the approval number of the work by the Ethics Committee. For works whose nature requires other specific ethical or legal permits (SERNAM, Department of Flora and Fauna, others), the registered authorization number must be reported, along with the date of authorization or specific protocol number.

j) Results. They must indicate a concise and objective description of the information discovered. Do not repeat all the data contained in the tables and figures. Numbers must be followed by a space and the units (60 °C and NOT 60°C) except for percentages ­(5% NOT 5 %). Use standardized international units and symbols and exponential symbology (for example: cmol kg-1 instead of meq / 100g). For English texts, decimals must be separated by a period and not a comma (23.50 and NOT 23,50).

k) Discussion. It should be limited to the meaning of the results and relate them to existing information, preferably the most recent. Only indispensable citations should be included. At the authors' discretion, the results and discussion can be presented together.

l) Conclusions (Optional section). The results achieved in the study can be emphasized separately on this section or be implicit in the discussion.

m) Acknowledgments (Optional section). They should be short and concise.

n) Bibliographic References. They will be presented at the end of the text in alphabetical order and must be restricted to the citations that appear in the text. In this section, the names of the journals should be fully cited.

Text citations:

In- text citations of bibliographic references will be reported in the following fashion:

- One author: Delgado (1994) or (Delgado, 1994).

- Two authors: Castro & Dávila (2005) or (Castro & Dávila, 2005).

- Three or more authors: Zegarra et al . (2001) or (Zegarra et al ., 2001).

- When there is more than one reference to the same sentence, cite the sources in chronological and alphabetical order, separated by semicolons. For example: Castro et al., 1991; Ferreira et al., 2001 or (Fonseca et al., 1991; Ferreira et al ., 2001).

 
Figures

Photographs, illustrations and graphics are considered figures and must be of good quality, with high contrast, in color or in B/W, numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals. A figure number, title and description must be placed below each figure.

Figures must be limited to a maximum of five (5) per article. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to configure the illustrative material in the most appropriate way, without compromising its meaning and presentation.

Scales must be indicated by a line or bar in the figure and, if necessary, be explained in the legend (for example, bar = 1mm).

Referring to figures in the text can be done directly or indirectly (in parentheses) in the following format: Figure 1 or (Figure 1).

Figures that have been previously published must contain source information and permission for reproduction. Photographs and illustrations (BITMAP) must be in TIF or JPEG format, in high resolution (minimum 300 dpi).

For illustrations and graphics (vector), use EPS, CDR, AI or WMF format.

Figures must be inserted at the end of the text after the cited bibliographies.
 

Tables

Tables must be of high quality and numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals. The maximum number of tables is five.

The numbering and title (short and descriptive) should be at the top of the table. Footnotes may follow the end of table.

Tables must be prepared in text editors (RTF or DOC), and cannot be inserted into the text as figures. The citation of the tables in the text can be made directly or indirectly (in parentheses) in the following format: Table 1 or (Table 1).

Tables should not be inserted in the text, they should be placed at the end of the text after the figures.
 

Important

Papers that do not follow these submission instructions WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

 
Scientific Notes

Scientific notes must be written in a unique sequence. They should include an Introduction, Material and Methods, Results and Discussion section but not place them as subtitles. The text must include Summary and Keywords in Spanish and English. A maximum of two figures and two tables per note will be accepted.


Publication Costs

Folia Amazónica does not charge any fee for review and/or publication of articles.

 
Additional Information

The editors of Folia Amazónica reserve the right to make normative, spelling and grammatical alterations in the original submission, with the purpose of maintaining the cultured norms of language, while respecting the authors stylistic choices.

After a layout is completed, the final proofs will be sent to the authors for correction, restricted to composition errors, and must be returned to editorial production on the stipulated date. Changes to the original submission will not be accepted at this stage.

Open Access Policy

 

 
 

Researchers at the Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon (IIAP) are committed to disseminating the products of their research and academic work as widely as possible. In line with this commitment, the IIAP Editorial Committee adopts the following open access policy for Folia Amazónica.

Each researcher / author grants IIAP permission to make their academic articles accessible and to exercise author rights on those articles. More specifically, each researcher / author grants IIAP a non-exclusive, irrevocable and worldwide license to exercise any right related to the Copyright of their academic article, in any medium, provided that the articles are not commercialized or used for commercial purposes. The policy applies to all written or co-written scholarly articles whose author has voluntarily submitted their manuscript to the journal.  


 
Plagiarism Prevention and Detection Policy

 

 
 

Manuscripts are examined with anti-plagiarism software to detect any similarity with another publication. Plagiarism can also be identified during the editor's review and in the peer review process. If plagiarism is detected, we will proceed according to COPE guidelines. For unintentional plagiarism, the author will be notified, correction and citation of the source will be requested. If the author does not correct the observations, the manuscript will be rejected. In case of evident plagiarism, the manuscript will be rejected or the publication will be retracted, communicating the fault to the authors, to their institutions of affiliation and to the entities that financed the research.


 
Retraction and Correction Policy

 

 
 

Folia Amazónica may publish corrections and retractions when necessary.

Retractions will be made in cases of plagiarism, repeated publication, problems in peer review, unauthorized use of data, copyright infringement, conflict of interest, manipulation of results, among others. The retraction implies the replacement of the article with a note referring to the document that has been removed from the journal.

In case of minor corrections, a correction document will be published, the original article is maintained with a note referring to the correction document.


 
Arbitration and Review Process

 

 

Folia Amazónica is peer-reviewed by renowned academics and researchers affiliated with research centers and universities in Peru and around the world. An anonymous peer review process coordinated by an editor is carried out for each article. The average review time is 6 weeks from receipt of the manuscript.



 
Archiving Policy

 

 

 Folia Amazónica uses the LOCKSS system to create an archive distributed among repositories and libraries that participate in the Open Access Journals initiative, allowing these entities to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration purposes.

It has weekly backup copies of the OJS system that are stored on the local servers of the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute. This includes database, OJS system source code and pdf of the articles.

 
Copyright

 

 

 Upon receipt of the articles, editors and reviewers are free to suggest partial modifications of the content, without affecting the meaning of the author's arguments. After articles are accepted to be published in the journal, Folia Amazónica has the right to reproduce the contents of the articles for dissemination purposes, rightful giving credit to the authors. The authors of each article will maintain the intellectual property and rights recognized by law.

By sending and having material evaluated, Folia Amazónica assumes that the authors know and accept the following conditions:

a) The authors retain the copyrights and assign the journal the right of first publication of the work, under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which allows third parties to use what is published as long as they cite the author or authors of the work and its publication in this magazine. This work is under a License of Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International.

b) Authors are free to enter into other contractual agreements for the non-exclusive distribution of the article they publish in this journal (such as including it in an institutional collection or publishing it in a book), provided that they clearly indicate the original publication of the work in this journal.

c) The authors expressly release the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP) from any responsibility for any legal, contractual or regulatory infringement that may be committed or may have been committed in relation to the work, obliging the institution to repair any resulting damage of the infringement of the aforementioned rights. Authors are allowed and encouraged to publish their work online (eg. in institutional or personal repositories) after the review and publication process, as it can lead to productive exchanges and greater and faster dissemination of published work.

 
Ethical aspects

 

 

Folia Amazónica is a publication that monitors the quality of its content and whose members exercise ethical and equitable practices in research. This statement is based on the Guidelines on Good Practice for Publications developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and proposes a set of recommendations for each of the functions and tasks developed during the editorial process.

1. About the Articles

1.1. The data declared in articles must be real and authentic. All articles must include citations and references to the sources used.

1.2. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, excessive self-citation, data manipulation and fraudulent data in articles are prohibited in any way. To guarantee the originality of the articles, free access anti-plagiarism software is used. It is considered an unethical practice to submit and publish the same article in more than one journal.

2. About the Author

2.1. Presenting ideas of other authors as your own is unacceptable.

2.2. The authors must report any source of funding that has allowed the study to be carried out, as well as any other commitment that may influence the interpretation of the results.

2.3. All authors are obliged to provide the necessary corrections and rectifications to observations.

3 . About the Evaluators and Reviewers

3.1. The evaluators must issue their opinion objectively and without bias.

3.2. Evaluators must any conflict of interest they may detect when reading an article that has been assigned for review to the editor in a timely manner.

3.3. Evaluators must alert any possible situation of plagiarism in a work, both partially and in the entirety of an article. The must also indicate if any theoretical source is being used in an article without being cited.

3.4. Peer review is a confidential process. Any information about the evaluated manuscripts must be kept confidential.

4. About the Editor

4.1. It is the responsibility of the editor to evaluate the articles without considering the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, political belief, nationality, ethnic origin or personal position of the authors.

4.2. The Editors must decide which articles should be sent for peer review, as well as which ones are in a position to be published after review. In addition to preserving the confidentiality of the evaluated articles, the editor will not reveal any information about their content, subject matter, authorship, data included, analysis carried out or final conclusions.

4.3. It is up to the editor to seek to satisfy the needs of readers and authors, by aiming to constantly improve and innovate the journal, and ensure the quality of published articles. 4.4. The editor must avoid any conflict of interest with rejected or accepted articles.

4.5 The editor receives all allegations of misconduct and coordinates with the Editorial Committee for resolution according to COPE guidelines

5 . About the Editorial Committee

5.1. The Editorial Committee is responsible for monitoring and safeguarding the various aspects of the journal's editorial ethics, resolving any ethical conflict as soon as possible and in coordination with the editor, in order to maintain the integrity and academic credibility of the journal.

5.2 The Editorial Committee is prepared to request clarifications, reject the publication, withdraw the publication, publish corrections, rectifications and apologies when necessary.
