The Journal of the Research Institute of the Geological, Mining, Metallurgical, and Geographical School of Engineering is the official organ of the GMMGSI of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima-Peru, for the publication of the results of original and unprecedented research in the area of the Sciences of the Earth. It appears as an annual volume made up of two issues. It will be published by the Research Institute as a Unit of Research. The Research Journal of the GMMGSI receives works carried out by academics of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and of other national or foreign researchers, prepared according to the standards of the current regulations. The Research Journal of the GMMGSI accepts works written in Spanish or English. The Editorial Committee of the Journal, advised by the pairs, will reserve the right to accept or reject the manuscript. The Editorial Committee does not assume responsibility for the conclusions to which the authors arrive in their work

Form and preparation of manuscripts

The manuscript should be submitted in triplicate; one of the copies will contain the original figures, carefully designed. Once the manuscript is accepted, the final text should be delivered in a diskette, including tables and figures or diagrams in Word or Excel. The scientific names and the Latin locutions will be the only ones to be underlined or in italics. The first time an agency is cited, the full scientific name should be written (gender, species and author), and subsequently only the initial of the generic name will be cited.

The measures should be stated in units of the metric system; if necessary add measures in other systems; the corresponding abbreviations should be explained in the text. Decimals with comma, not period (example: 0.5)

References in the text should include the name of the author and year, example: (Carrillo, 1988) or ... in accordance with Sánchez (1976) ... or (Chávez and Castro, 1988). If there are several works of an author in a single year, they should be cited with a letter in sequence together with the year (example: Castro, 1952). When there are more than two authors, the Latin words et al in italics will be cited after the first author. (1981).

The bibliography will include all and only the references cited in the text, placing in alphabetical order the surname of the first author, without a number preceding it. Examples: Tarazona, J. 1984. Bol. Inst. Mar Perú-Callao. Vol. Extraordinario: 163-171.

References to articles in press should include the volume, year, and the name of the journal where they will be published.

The illustrations and the tables should be adequate to be reduced. The figures include maps, schemes, photographs, diagrams, drawings, figures, etc. Should be separated from the text and its location should be pointed out with pencil in the right margin of the manuscript.

The legends of the figures should be presented jointly, in separate sheet and should be sufficiently explanatory. The number of the figure as well as the name of the author should be indicated in the left lower margin of the figure. The drawings, diagrams, and figures should be presented in Canson paper and in Chinese ink, size A4, placed on a white cardboard and with letters and symbols of appropriate size, that permit its reduction without losing clarity. Figures in computers are accepted, but only in high quality (scanned, high resolution, preferably laser printer or equivalent). The figures created in Excel or Word will be included in the diskette to be delivered when the work has been accepted.

The drawings should have a scale so that they can be increased. Only the negatives of photographs in black and white, with wide spectrum of tones and good contrast, placed in a white A4 cardboard will be accepted. The cost for photographs in color should be assumed by the author.

Figures, tables will be listed in correlative order with Arabic numbers. Each table should take a descriptive title in the upper part; photographs will be considered figures for numbering.

The text should contain: Title, title in English, name of the authors, institution of the authors, address of the author to which the correspondence should be directed, summary, key words (maximum of 5), abstract, key words, introduction, material and methods, results, discussion and conclusions, thanks and cited literature. The text should include 25 lines per sheet and 60 characters by line (Courier, 12 points, double space) in bond A4 paper, with a maximum of 20 pages including tables and illustrations.

The title should be written in upper case letters and express the real content of the work. If it includes a generic or specific name, the immediately superior systematic range should be indicated.

Conditions of publication

The manuscript will be sent to the pairs for technical review.

The first printing test will be sent to the principal author for correction, before definitively printing it. If this were impossible or difficult, corrections will be carried out by the Editorial Committee. If due to some special circumstances the work should be published not in accordance with the previous disposals, the author should present its request to the Editorial Committee. The principal author will receive 5 reprints of the article free of cost. An additional issue can be requested before the printing takes place, taking into account the respective costs. In addition the author will cover the photographs printing expenditures.
