Abstract
VILCA-RODRIGUEZ, Mauricio and TORRES-ORIHUELA, Guido. Implicit theories about reading in underachieving college freshmen in text comprehension. Case studies. Bol. Acad. peru. leng. [online]. 2023, n.73, pp.89-119. Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 0567-6002. http://dx.doi.org/10.46744/bapl.202301.004.
This study had the general objective of identifying the implicit theories about reading in students entering college with low levels in text comprehension competence. The research was developed using the multiple case study method and a semi-structured interview was applied to 15 university freshmen who obtained poor results in the reading test. To this end, the data were organized by means of a categorization system that made it possible to analyze the correspondence between conceptualizations, reading objectives and implicit theories. It is concluded that students have their own reading conceptions of reproductive, interpretive and literary implicit theories, which represents a greater dependence of the reader on what is said in the text.
