Abstract

CARRION CIPRIANO, Gilmer Ever  and  SAAVEDRA PACOTAIPE, José Samuel. The structural semantics of lyric poetry in the non-canonical calligrams of postmodern poetry. Bol. Acad. peru. leng. [online]. 2023, n.73, pp.179-208.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 0567-6002.  http://dx.doi.org/10.46744/bapl.202301.007.

Since the calligrams became known at the end of the 19th century by Stéphane Mallarmé (1842-1898), and then with Guillaume Apollinare (1880-1918) as a new way of making poetry, their literary fashion is still in force. The aim of this study was to carry out a semantic analysis that demonstrates how the structure of the lyric in non-canonical calligrams has altered the principles that governed traditional metrics. For this purpose, a sample of three calligrams was selected: the poetic face of “Pablo Neruda”, the “Glass of champagne” and “The hourglass”. The research used the analytical, comparative, deductive method, whose approach is based on the theoretical proposals on meaning of Ferdinand de Saussure (1857-1913), Louis Hjelmslev (1899-1965), Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914), among others. It is concluded that the non-canonical calligrams transgress even more the rules of the structure of the modern lyric whose purpose is to propose a new aesthetic form of poetry based on the semantic correlation between images and words.
