We describe the strategies that university students deploy for the search, selection and evaluation of information in order to make a diagnosis that allows taking actions to strengthen academic reading and writing. The research consisted of a descriptive cross-sectional, non-experimental, single-case study by convenience. Among the most outstanding results, we find that Peruvian students revealed that they have not received specific training for digital information searches, so they do not know the essential concepts to perform them; however, they do recognize some options to specify them. Among the practices for selecting and evaluating information, they take into account databases, contrast of information, exploration of the text, purposes, place of publication. Regarding the author, they evaluate the information according to the author, trajectory, recognition, academic affiliation. Finally, they stated that they evaluate aspects related to citation.
