GARCIA CACERES, Uriel. Contribución al estudio de la patología endémica de los valles del extremo sur de la costa peruana: I. La Enfermedad de Chagas en el Valle de Moquegua. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1951, vol.8, n.1-4, pp.227-243. ISSN 1726-4634.
1° In the valley of the Moquegua river, in Southern Perú, human dwellings are heavely infested by Triatoma infestans. 2° 288 bugs were examined, 192 of which (66.6 %) were found infected by the flagellate stage of a trypanosoma. The pathogenecity of this trypanosome was determined by inoculations in dogs. 3° Dogs and guinea-pigs naturally infected by the trypanosome were also found. 4° 17 human beings with clinical signs of Chagas' disease were examined. Of these, 5 children showed positive results by the xenodiagnostic technique. 5° Frequently reports of such localities indicate that there are cardiophaties of unknown etiology, not explained by reumatic fever, hypertension or others demonstrable factors.
