ORELLANO, Carlos. Use of virtual spaces for teaching in undergraduate medical courses. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2012, vol.23, n.3, pp.188-192. ISSN 1018-130X.
Objective: To describe the characteristics of use of virtual spaces for teaching (VST) in undergraduate medical courses. Methods: Descriptive case-series. All courses developed by the Alberto Hurtados´s School of Medicine at Cayetano Heredia University during 2001were included, art workshops and rotations during externship and internship were excluded. Professors were instructed to use the platform to reach the minimum objectives (upload the syllabus, lectures, and use of gradebook and the news section to send announces). Other uses were made according to the needs of each course and optionally. Results: There were 45 VSTs available. All courses had the syllabus and grades uploaded, 66.67% accomplished the minimum objectives. Lectures were uploaded in 87,76% of courses and the news section was used in 68,68% of courses. Conclusions: An important number of courses achieved the minimum objectives proposed by the School of Medicine finally being the common features that should contain each VST. Next step is to review the topics covered in each course to explore and design new tools to improve learning, according to the new academic demands.
