PABLO JUAREZ, Rolando; DOMINGUEZ MACHADO, Silvana y ROMERO, María Agustina. Physiology and clinical significance of salivary protein complexes. Rev. Estomatol. Herediana [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.3, pp.179-183. ISSN 1019-4355. http://dx.doi.org/10.20453/reh.v26i3.2964.
Saliva plays an important role in oral cavity and body health. New technologies with higher detection sensitivity have opened a new horizon to successfully screen saliva components, especially proteins and their metabolites. This review focuses on the current state of interactions and therapeutic achievements related to salivary proteins and peptides. Understanding the processes which govern salivary protein complexes formation is an increasingly important challenge in biology and medicine. Oral and systemic diseases treatment with combination of compound, including salivary proteins and peptides, is emerging and may offer a robust alternative in near future to make clinical decisions.
