Irritable Small Bowel (ISB) is the most common disorder of the gastroenterologic practice. In the other hand, depression, also common, and can to produce somatic symptoms that could to confound to physicians about visceral diseases, specially of the digestive tract. The main objective of this trail was to determine the relationship between digestive symptoms and depresive symptoms in a population of high socio-economical status of five districts of Lima. We design a transversal study of prevalence of symptoms of low digestive tract and depresive symptoms, and design a study of case-control to evaluate the relationship between symptoms of low digestive tract and depresive symptoms. It were included 300 persons. We used the Beck Inventory for Depression and the Manning Criteria for ISB. We found significative association (p<0.05) between symptoms of low digestive tract and mild depresive symptoms, with a OR=10.9 and significative statistically association between symptoms of low digestive tract and depresive symptoms (p=0.01, OR=3.48). We conclude there is an association between symptoms of low digestive tract and depresive symptoms in the population of high socio-economical status of five districts of Lima, Perú.
