Resumen

CHINCHAY CACERES, María Alejandra. Fuerza Loretana: Study of the rise and fall of a regional political party. Elecciones [online]. 2023, vol.22, n.25, pp.255-280.  Epub 30-Jun-2023. ISSN 1994-5272.  http://dx.doi.org/10.53557/elecciones.2023.v22n25.08.

This article examines the rise and fall of Fuerza Loretana, a Peruvian subnational political organization. Through a comprehensive analysis, I investigate the factors that contributed to the initial success of this regional party and the circumstances that eventually led to its decline. Using a research methodology that combines semi-structured interviews and the review of secondary sources, I examine the key aspects of the internal organization, the implemented political strategies, and the role of other stakeholders. The study reveals that Fuerza Loretana emerged as a promising regional political force due to its ability to forge strategic alliances and to articulate a political program that resonated with the demands and aspirations of the local population. However, as the party gained influence and power, the leader’s image weakened, when corruption allegations related to clientelistic practices to maintain power were made public by the local press. These accusations became a key element in their subsequent downfall. This analysis of the Fuerza Loretana case contributes to further understanding the dynamics of regional political organizations and their evolution over time. Furthermore, it offers valuable lessons about the challenges and obstacles faced by these organizations in the context of subnational politics.
