Age estimation according to the Demirjian method in children aged 4 to 16 of the city of Puebla, Mexico.. Rev. Estomatol. Herediana [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.3, pp.139-146. Objectives: To compare the chronological age and the dental age of children between the ages of 4 and 16 years-old, who went to a private radiological centre in 2014, in Puebla, Mexico, using the Demirjian Method. Material and Methods: A total of 1125 panoramic Radiographic were evaluated during 2014 using the Demirjian method to determine the dental age of each of the patients. In addition, a comparative analysis with the chronological age was made using the same data base as that of the images. Results: The chronological age group with ages between 14 and 14.99 years-old presented the most number of cases according to the chronological age, most of them being female. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare the dental and chronological age, in order to obtain the statistic significance determined by the age groups. When comparing the dental age with the chronological age in the female group, only those with an age between 8 and 8.99 years-old did not show a significant statistical difference (p>0.05), while the male group showed no significant statistical difference in the age groups of 4-4.99 , 8-8.99 and 9-9.99 years-old. Conclusions: The Demirjian Method in the selected population overestimates the age in the majority of the age groups, with the exception of the female age group 8-8.99 years-old and the male age group of 9-9.99 years-old.
