Resumen
ZAMORA UBEDA, Zobeyda C.. The Nahuatl substratum in Nicaraguan Spanish according to the Dictionary of the Spanish Language (DLE). Leng. Soc. [online]. 2022, vol.21, n.2, pp.13-26. Epub 05-Dic-2022. ISSN 1729-9721. http://dx.doi.org/10.15381/lengsoc.v21i2.22516.
This article is a lexical and semantic study of the words of Nahuatl origin registered in the Diccionario de la lengua española (DLE). The methodology used is contrastive, since the lexical items present in the DLE with Nahuatl etymology are analyzed, with a Nicaraguan mark. The general objective is to note the treatment of words of Nahuatl origin in the DLE, with special attention to their spelling and meaning. Among the main findings, it was found that, in the lexical articles of indigenous words from the language studied, the full gloss of the etymology is omitted and the etymological spelling of the original language is not adequately represented, as in the case of achiote, camanance, champa2, chiche, colocho, guacal, huipil. On the other hand, some words do not appear with the diatopic mark of Nicaragua, although they should have it: cenzontle ‘bird’, chilamate ‘tree’, chiltepe ‘tree’, chinamo ‘house’ and chingaste ‘grain residue’.
