Resumen

CASTILLO-MARTELL, Humberto. Epistemological horizons of psychiatry: objectification of the subjectivity. Rev Neuropsiquiatr [online]. 2014, vol.77, n.2, pp.78-85. ISSN 0034-8597.

In this paper we reflect on the psychiatric diagnosis, based on the following questions: To what extent the subjective nature of expressions of the pathological phenomena in psychiatry influences the scientific nature of the discipline, as a medical specialty? How is constructed the objectivity and scientificity of diagnosis in psychiatry? How are expressed the social and cultural relations in psychiatric diagnosis? As a starting point, we review epistemological and cultural topics of psychiatric practice, specifically diagnosis and psychiatric interview, on a broader level of social, cultural, political and economic interaction between people. Finally we can envision that psychiatry is becoming a preferred forum for rethinking the knowledge and power of medicine, in a process of closest approach to the multiple experiences of living, be healthy and sick; while it is inescapable to highlight the importance of genuine cultural integration as a substantial ingredient of the development and survival of psychiatric specialty.
