CABRERA, Santiago A e CRUZADO, Lizardo. Migration as a risk factor for schizophrenia. Rev Neuropsiquiatr [online]. 2014, vol.77, n.2, pp.116-122. ISSN 0034-8597.
The multiplicity of epidemiological factors associated with schizophrenia encompasses one highly topical and very complex factor: the processes of migration. Millions of people worldwide have migrated and are migrating now, undergoing various experiences of racism, discrimination, socioeconomic postponement and, of course, the migratory mourning. It has been determined that the experiences of discrimination and social isolation (living alone and in communities with low density of migrant ethnicity) are among the most prominent epidemiological correlates of risk. From recent and illustrative cases from our hospital clinical casuistry, we review the relevant literature on this subject and then we reflect on this collective psychopathological phenomenon
