Abstract

This is the case of a 14 year-old teenager diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who showed psychotic symptoms on the third day of treatment with methylphenidate; and whose symptoms did not remit did not remit despite the withdrawal of the stimulant. Antipsychotic treatment was initiated on sixth day of the suspension of the stimulant because of the intensity and persistence of symptoms. Psychotic symptoms persisted for more than 8 months of patient follow-up, for this reason he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
