Musicis a type of language aimed at communicating, evoking and reinforcing different emotions. The processing of music is independent from that of the spoken language or personal speech, each using independent circuits, one of which may be severely affected while the other remaining totally unaffected. The processing of music occurs through channels separated by a multimodal system for temporal elements (rhythm), melodic (tone, timbre, melody), memory and emotional response. The musically trained brain experiences particular changes in its anatomy and functionality. The effects of exposure to Mozart’s music (Mozart Effect), when present, are transient and restricted to a specific (visuo-spatial) ability; therefore, they have no association with variations in intelligence-related functions.
