MIYAGUSUKU-CHANG, Aida  y  SAAVEDRA, Javier E. Quality of life in adults with history of attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity in childhood without current suspicious of the disorder in Metropolitan Lima. Rev Neuropsiquiatr [online]. 2018, vol.81, n.2, pp.73-81. ISSN 0034-8597.

Objectives: To assess the quality of life (QoL) in adults with history of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) that live in Metropolitan Lima. Material and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study based on data from the “Epidemiologic study on Mental Health in Metropolitan Lima and Callao-2012”, performed through a direct survey of 4445 adults that were obtained using a three-stage probability sampling. The survey was conducted by qualified personnel using the MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview Plus (M.I.N.I PLUS), the WHO Adult ADHD Self Report Scale (ASRS) screener and the Quality of Life Index developed by Mezzich and col as instruments. F tests of independence were used for bivariate associations and the general linear model to compare the quality of life. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in quality of life between adults with history of ADHD and without. The history of ADHD in childhood was associated with male gender (p= 0.019), poverty (p= 0,025) and current presence of other mental illness (p<0.0001). Conclusions: A lower QoL was found in adults with a history of ADHD, independent of the disorder’s persistence or current diagnosis. The pernicious effect of the history of ADHD in childhood may have connotations in the field of prevention, clinical care and even in the nosological definitions of ADHD in the adult.

Palabras clave : Attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity; quality of life; diagnostic techniques and procedures.
