Abstract

BARAHONA U, Planck  and  VERES F, Ernesto. Macroeconomic Determinants of Peruvian Migration Flows. Apuntes [online]. 2020, vol.47, n.87, pp.5-27. ISSN 0252-1865.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21678/apuntes.87.1090.

The objective of this paper is to determine the variables associated with the share of Peruvian migration out of total immigration into Chile during 2005-2014. The initial hypothesis is that Peruvian migratory flow has a social and economic component. The results showed that a greater increase in the Human Development Index (HDI) for Chile in comparison with Peru increases migratory flow. On the other hand, a higher education budget for Chile relative to Peru decreases the migratory flow of Peruvian citizens. Against expectations, a one percent increase in per capita GDP in Chile decreases the flow of Peruvian migrants by 0.61 percent.

Keywords : migration; human development Index; GDP per capita; relative weight..
