Abstract
LEDESMA PRIETTO, Nadia. Methods and Objectives of Birth Control. A Relational Analysis of the Field of Medicine, Argentina (1930-1940). Apuntes [online]. 2021, vol.48, n.88, pp.57-83. ISSN 0252-1865. http://dx.doi.org/10.21678/apuntes.88.1290.
In this paper we analyze the ideas and practices that the medical field deployed around birth control. From a relational and gender perspective, we find differences in the approaches to contraceptive methods, abortion and sterilization. In the context of the demographic transition and the rise of eugenic ideas, voluntary birth control was a problem for the medical elite. In contrast, the marginal positioning spread knowledge to access sexual pleasure without worrying about reproduction.
