Abstract

VIVAR VIVAR, Pilar; ARTEAGA VIVEROS, Eduardo; MANZANO SAAVEDRA, Karla  and  GUENEL CABEZAS, Mayra. Production of the Phoneme /s/ in a Sample of Chilean Spanish-speaking Children: Acquisition of the Dialectal Aspects. Lexis [online]. 2020, vol.44, n.1, pp.113-143. ISSN 0254-9239.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18800/lexis.202001.004.

The alveolar fricative consonant /s/ in plosive position (middle and end of the word) was studied in a sample composed by 161 speakers of Chilean Spanish, divided in four age groups from 2;0 up to 3;11. The main purpose of the study was to consider this segment from a dialectal perspective, in order to understand at what point in its acquisition children start to use this sound’s variants, i.e., [h] and [Ø]. Results were analyzed according to age and socioeconomic status variables.

Keywords : phonological acquisition; Chilean Spanish; -s lenition.
