Abstract

CALDERON URIBE, Magaly; HAMANN, Cristiano  and  PIZZINATO, Adolfo. Forced displacement in Brazil: Experiences from women treated by Social Assistance. Revista de Psicología [online]. 2021, vol.39, n.2, pp.881-908. ISSN 0254-9247.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18800/psico.202102.013.

This article sought to understand what displaced women, heads of families, assisted by the Social Assistance of Brazil, understand about their displacement process and the State’s actions against it. Through Critical Discourse Analysis it was identified that, although there are several causal attributions to displacement - such as environmental risk and violence - what really runs through the experiences of these women is an exclusive urbanization, lived throughout the history of these families, which led them to occupy inappropriate spaces to live, such as the banks of streams and unsuitable land, which ended up being risky and dislodging the families in the medium term. This situation was understood by the participants as a natural process to their social condition, but not as a result of negligence on the part of the State. The results even indicate that the forms of forced displacement are articulated and serves as a state rhetoric to justify displacements related to historical violence and negligence on the part of the State.

Keywords : displacement; violation of rights; families; State; social inequality.
