Hegel’s political philosophy represents a significant contribution to the understanding of modern democracy and social dynamics. As regards modern democracy, the concept of democratic ethical life presented by Wellmer allows for the integration of equal subjective rights and citizen participation in a deliberative culture that fills democracy with citizen vitality without going against individual liberties. As for social dynamics, they can be explained by the need for reciprocal recognition as the key to the constitution of subjectivity, which explains the moral motivation in the struggles of social groups. Both concepts are closely interwoven because the struggle for recognition allows for an explanation of the dynamics of democratic ethical life. Thus, democratic ethical life and the struggle for recognition, as interwoven concepts, offer two key notions for the solution of some of the obstacles with which contemporary political philosophy must deal.
