Abstract

HERRERA, Genaro  and  FLORES, Carlos. Medullobastoma in children and adult: Findings in Computed Tomography. Rev Med Hered [online]. 1995, vol.6, n.4, pp.168-174. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objetive: To describe the Computed Tomography (CT) features of the patients with the diagnosis of cerebellar medulloblastoma. Material y Methods: We reviewed the CTs of 30 cases with medulloblastoma proved by histopathology (21 children and 9 adults). Results: In 60% of cases the radiologic diagnosis (RD) was correct. There was more accuracy in the RD in children than in adolescents and adults. In more than 90% of cases we hind hydrocephalus, peritumoral edema and affectation of the IV ventricle. Most of tumors were hyperdense (77%) and heterogeneous (80%). Less common CT features were calcifications, isodense and hypodense tumors (compared with normal gray matter), and lack of contrast enhancement. The so-called typical appearance of medulloblastoma (central tumor, homogenous, hyperdense, with good contrast enhancement and well defined margins) was just observed in 10% of cases. Conclusion: Medulloblastoma has a variable CT appearance, but is diagnosis by CT is more sensitive in children than in adults, probably due to the tomographic findings of the tumor are more characteristic in children. (Rev Med Hered 1995; 6: 168-174).
