HERRERA, Genaro e FLORES, Carlos. Medullobastoma in children and adult: Findings in Computed Tomography. Rev Med Hered [online]. 1995, vol.6, n.4, pp.168-174. ISSN 1018-130X.
Objetive: To describe the Computed Tomography (CT) features of the patients with the diagnosis of cerebellar medulloblastoma. Material y Methods: We reviewed the CTs of 30 cases with medulloblastoma proved by histopathology (21 children and 9 adults). Results: In 60% of cases the radiologic diagnosis (RD) was correct. There was more accuracy in the RD in children than in adolescents and adults. In more than 90% of cases we hind hydrocephalus, peritumoral edema and affectation of the IV ventricle. Most of tumors were hyperdense (77%) and heterogeneous (80%). Less common CT features were calcifications, isodense and hypodense tumors (compared with normal gray matter), and lack of contrast enhancement. The so-called typical appearance of medulloblastoma (central tumor, homogenous, hyperdense, with good contrast enhancement and well defined margins) was just observed in 10% of cases. Conclusion: Medulloblastoma has a variable CT appearance, but is diagnosis by CT is more sensitive in children than in adults, probably due to the tomographic findings of the tumor are more characteristic in children.
