Abstract

Falling is associated with serious morbidity among elderly people, and this Fac. Is often not registered in the clinical assessment by the physician. Objetive: To determine the frecuency of falling in outpatients of the medicine service, at the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia. Material and methods: A prospective, and randomized study was done, that included 60 patients aged over 60 years. Results and conclusions: Fall occurred in 33% of patients and they were more frequent between 80 to 89 years old group. The fallings occurred most frequently at outdoors (55%), and by extrinsic factors (65%). (Rev Med Hered 1996; 7: 119-124).
