Abstract

Objective: To investigate de risk sexual behavior practices for infection by Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) in Clients of licensed female sex workers (FSW). Material and Methods: A transversal, descriptive and non-probabilistic study was design. Anonymous survey through direct interview over sexual practices and histories of STD in men clients of 2 licensed brothels in Callao harbor, between February and March 1995. Results: We asked 558 men and 382 (68.5%) accepted to participate in the study. The age average was 31.3 ± 7.3 years. 91.5% has high school or college education, 89.1% were workers and 10.6% were students. During the last year before interview, the average sexual partner was 12.7 ± 15.8 and the average sexual intercourses with FSW was 26.1 ± 28.0, moreover, 41% had casual intercourses. 65% had steady sexual partners (SSP), in the last six mouths, they, had more frequency of casual intercourses. 46.4% practices anal sex with FSW and 28% with SSP. The consistent use of condoms is high with FSW in anal and vaginal sex (87.4% and 87.8%), but is a recent practice. and is lower with SSP. 21.4% report at least one condom breakage during sexual intercourse with FSW the last year; this group 13.3% had homosexual practices, but only 2 (0.6%) the last year. they had more frequency of anal sex with SSP and FSW, and more STD history. One third had some STD, more frequent gonorrhea (23 %), and 12.5% genital ulcers. Conclusions: The men clients of licensed brothels had a recent high use of condom with FSW (87%); but had risk sexual practices for infection by STD yet, and increase the risk for their SSP.
