BURGOS SALINAS, Silvia; CARBAJAL ARROYO, Luz y SAONA UGARTE, Pedro. Post Cesaream endometritis: Risk factors. Rev Med Hered [online]. 1999, vol.10, n.3, pp.105-110. ISSN 1018-130X.
Objective: To assess the risk factors for post-cesarean endometritis (PCE). Material and methods: A retrospective case-control study was carried out in the Obstetric Service at the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia from January 1st, 1992 to July 31st, 1996. We used bivariate and multivariate analysis of logistic regression, for the statitical analysis. Results: During this period of time there were 82 patients with clinical diagnosis of endometritis. A control group of 82 patients who underwent cesarean section and had a normal puerperium were selected randomly. The factors associated with a significant risk for developing PCE with logistic regression analysis were: Maternal age less than 21 years old and post-operative hematocrit less or equal to 30%. In the group of patients with endometritis, 45.1% of them had a concurrent infection, being post-operative wound infection (29.3%) and urinary tract infection (11%) the most frequent ones.
