Abstract
CABREJOS PITA, José Gabriel et al. Determinación del volumen testicular y longitud del pene en escolares de 5 años a 9 años de edad en el distrito de San Martín de Porres en Lima Metropolitana. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2002, vol.13, n.3, pp.79-84. ISSN 1018-130X.
Objective: To determine values of testicular volume and penile length in males of 5 to 9 years in the District of San Martin de Porres. Material and Methods: We included scholars between 5 and 9 years of age belonging to public and private schools of the District of San Martin de Porres in Lima Metropolitana. Testicular volume was determined by two methods: a) comparing it with the Prader´s orchidometer, and b) measuring axis with caliper, using the method of Lambert. Penile length was measured with a rigid ruler. Results: We included 515 boys. By measuring of the axis of the testicle, right and left respectively, mean volume for boys of 5 years old was 2.1 ± 0.63 ml and 2.03 ± 0.63 ml, for boys of 6 years old was 2.02 ± 0.59 ml and 1.93 ± 0.62 ml, for boys of 7 years old was 2.04 ± 0.67 ml and 1.95 ± 0.63 ml, for boys of 8 years old was 2.11 ± 0.68 ml and 2.09 ± 0.67 ml, and for boys of 9 years old was 2.24 ± 0.76 ml and 2.12 ± 0.71 ml. It was found significant difference between the mean of volume of right and left testicle. It was too, significant correlation among the mean of testicular volume values, calculated with Orchidometer of Prader or measuring of their axes with the Lamberts method. The mean penile length in boys of 5 years old was 3.43 ± 0.5, in boys of 6 years old was 3.36 ± 0.66, in boys of 7 years old was 3.54 ± 0.65 cm, in boys of 8 years old was 3.57 ± 0.89 cm, and in boys of 9 years old was 3.39 0.87 cm. Conclusions: It is suggested to take 2 SD for above and 2 SD for below the mean value of testicular volume and penile length like referential values for the diagnosis of alterations in the development of the secondary sexual characteristics.
