We report a male patient with echinococcosis of hip. This disease is uncommon (2% of the total cases of echinococcosis). The diagnosis was established by biopsy of the hip joint, and serological tests Arch V and Western blot. In addition we discuss the physiopathology, clinical manifestation and treatment of echinococcosis. (Rev Med Hered 2002; 13: 109-113).
