Abstract

Objective: The end point of the study was to determinate symptom’s rate of sleep apnea and insomnia in 99 physicians. Material and methods:We used an anonymous and self-made questionnaire. Forty-two answered the questionnaire. Mean age 48±5.3 (35-78) years old and 39 were male. A polisomnography was done in four physicians. Results: 22 (51 %) had loud snore, 9 (22 %) sleepiness and 5 (11 %) pauses during sleep. Loud snore + pauses 5 (11 %), loud snore + pauses + BMI> 27 in 2 (5 %) and snore + pauses + sleepiness in 1 (3 %). Nineteen (45 %) had insomnia. Four nocturnal studies documented Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Conclusion: OSA´s symptoms and insomnia rates were high in the studied population and OSA diagnosis was defined in at least 4 of 39 male physicians. ( Rev Med Hered 2003; 14: 53-58).
