Although the medical community accepts that insomnia is a common dysfunction, it is not usually consigned in the clinical evolutions, probably for the difficulty of the professionals of the health to investigate about the quality of the dream in the patients. Objective:: Determine the frequency of the registration of the insomnia in the evolutions of the clinical histories of the inpatients at a general hospital. Material and method:: A tabulated questionnaire was applied to 97 inpatients of the Services of Medicine and Infectious of the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia. The questionnaire registered age, sex, two main medical diagnoses, days of hospitalization and days with initial insomnia, of maintenance and of waking up, and if the insomnia was registered in the clinical history in the daily medical evolution or in the nursery notes. Results: 76 (76.8%) of the patients suffered of some insomnia type during their hospitalization, but in alone 3 of them the insomnia had been consigned in their evolution in the clinical history. Conclusion: Although some of the symptoms related with the insomnia can be clinically important, it is very frequent that is not recognized by the doctors in their evolutions that justified the adoption of educational and assistance strategies to correct that remarkable omission.
