Abstract

A medical condition (disease and accidents) represents major cause of labor absenteeism. Some authors refers three of fourth of labor absence by medical cause. Objective: To evaluate labor absenteeism of medical cause in a miner enterprice. Material and methods: A retrospective study was realized by a medical service of a cupper mine in Peru. We revised 541 rest medical records. Our study used International Classification of Disease from OMS (CIE - 10) by our diagnosis. Results: We found 445 (82.26%) simple disease, 89 (16.45%) accidents and 7 (1.29%) pregnancy controls. We didn´t have any fatal accidents. Our rates were: Frequency 0.45, severity 5.41 and Absence Average 11.81 days. However, recent literature needs rates relacionated with man-hours worked, then our rates were Frequency 0.16 and Severity 1.87. Conclusions: We concluded, had a lower rates, but had to enfatizes our health prevention programs. (Rev Med Hered 2004; 15:96-101).
