In general, all the companies develop programs to avoid or to minimize the accidents of the work. Nevertheless, poor technical information exists related to the prevalence and costs from accidents out of work, which difficult analysis of the problem. Objectives: Analyze the medical rests in the workers of our mining camp generated by accidents out of work. Material and Methods: It´s a transverse periodic study by in the Service of Occupational Health of the Hospital Toquepala. The medical diagnoses were informed according to the CIE-10 of the WHO. We followed the classification of accidents out of work of Loss Control’s program Management of the DNV, to which we modificated. There were checked 468 medical rest in the 2002, which 88 (18.8%) were accidents out of work, whereas in the 2003 were checked 570, which 99 (17.37%) were accidents out of work. Results: The etiology of the accidents out of work were Transport 11 (12,5%) in the year 2002 and 12 (12,12%) in the year 2003; Home 25 (28.41%) in the year 2002 and 20 (20.2%) in the year 2003; Public 21 (23.86%) in the year 2002 and 36 (36.36%) in the year 2003. Conclusions: We have high values of accidents out of work in relation to the total number of accidents in our company in the year 2002 and 2003, however, none fatally. In addition, we must design preventive programs toward the road safety and the good practice of sports. We conclude that must incorporate the analysis of the accidents out of work inside the Diagnosis of the Situation of Labour Health.(Rev Med Hered 2005;16:107-113).
