BERNABE ORTIZ, Antonio  y  VARGAS PACHERREZ, Daniel. Tuberculosis Control Programme evaluation in a shantytown of Lima. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2005, vol.16, n.2, pp.114-119. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objective: To evaluate and analyze evolution and trends of tuberculosis from 2000 to 2004 at shantytown zone in Lima. Materials and Methods: An observational study of cases report was undertaken in Pampas de San Juan from January 1st, 2000 to December 31, 2004. The data was taken from routine reports of National Control Program. Results: The database used in this study include a total of 694 cases, with 528 incidence cases (76.1%); 530 cases were patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, 82.1% of them were smear positive. The incidence decreased from 208.96 to 187.05/100,000 inhabitants. The treatment outcomes between 2000 and 2003 were 427 completed (87.5%), 27 defaulted (5.5%), 13 failed (2.7%) and 21 dead during the treatment (4.3%). Conclusions: This study shows the constant falling of report tuberculosis cases at shantytown zone in Lima. Although there are limited resources, these must be used to tuberculosis control with its new problems, like as HIV and TB co-infection, multidrug resistant forms and the high levels of dissemination for the crowding-related to the poverty.(Rev Med Hered 2005;16:114-119).
