Daniel Vergara Lope (1865-1938), a mexican physician, was a pioneer of the high altitude s man physiology in the last decade of the XIXth century. And, Thomas Holmes Ravenhill (1881-1952), British physicians, described for the first time the clinical variants of the acute mountain sickness (called "puna" or "soroche") in 1913. Both contributions were not taken into account for the next investigators during the XXth century but they have been rescued recently. (Rev Med Hered 2005;16:208-217).
