GOMERO CUADRA, Raúl y LLAP YESAN, Carlos. Occupational Medicine in current times. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2005, vol.16, n.4, pp.273-275. ISSN 1018-130X.
The scope of practice of occupational medicine has undergone important changes in the last century as a result of expectations of employers and workers and society and Government. The role of the occupational physician has expanded from occupational disease to enhancing the productivity of the worker with absence and presentism management. The activities are directed to worker, his family and his community. The emphasis is on preventive interventions and policies rather than treatment. The provision of occupational health care has also expanded from the industrial to university and community hospital-based clinics, multi-specialty group clinics, occupational medicine clinics, as well as private and government consultants. Finally, health and productivity is a component of Occupational and Public Health, Safety, loss and risk management, disease and disability management, health promotion, hazard control, etc. (Rev Med Hered 2005;16:273-275).
