We report a 59-year-old woman with a 3-week history of weight loss, epigastric pain, nausea and severe vomiting that came to the emergency room. Physical examination showed a painful abdomen on palpation, fine tremor of her hands and reflexes were brisk. The patient underwent an extensive work-up, including an abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy, all of which were normal. After admission, thyroid hormones showed elevated levels of free thyroxine and triiodothyronine while thyrotropin was suppressed. The radionuclide imaging showed a diffuse hyper functioning thyroid gland. Therapy was begun with methimazole and propanolol which decrease her clinical symptoms. The patient was discharged from the hospital without any complaint (Rev Med Hered 2006;17:55-57).

Palabras llave: Hyperthyroidism; thyroid; vomiting.
