Resumen LUJAN ROCA, Daniel Angel y PAJUELO CAMACHO, Giovanni Rodolfo. Piuria en examen microscópico de orina no centrifugada: su asociación a infección de tracto urinario. Rev Med Hered, abr./jun 2006, vol.17, no.2, p.68-73. ISSN 1018-130X. Objective: To study the clinical application of pyuria detection in uncentrifuged urine and its association with urinary tract infection. Material and methods: Urine samples of 182 patients were evaluated. A microscopic exam was carried out and urine culture. Pyuria was defined like presence > 5 white blood cells/high power field. Results: Sensibility was 25.8%, specificity 94.7%, positive predictive value 50.0% and negative predictive value 86.1%. Conclusions: Pyuria presence has a limited value to detect ill people; but pyuria absence is useful to define people without urinary tract infection. (Rev Med Hered 2006;17:74-76). Palabras llave: Pyuria; urinary tract infection; urine culture. | |||||||
