PALOMINO BALDEON, Juan Carlos et al. Relationship between Health risk factors and direct medical costs in peruvian workers. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2006, vol.17, n.2, pp.90-95. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objective: To find out relationship between Health Risk Factors (HRF) and Direct Medical Costs in Peruvian worker population. Material and Methods: It was carried out a study in a Peruvian mining workers, and we included workers with yearly medical test 2003. It was used the Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) tool of the Occupational Medicine Service where workers receive medical attention. General data were consigned and 7 HRF were evaluated: 1. Diagnosis and medicaments prescription during year of study for anxiety and/or depression. Yearly average direct medical costs were related with number of HRF, and also costs and specific HRF presence or not presence were compared. For statistical analysis it was carried out a multivariate model with linear regression. Results: A positive association between age, timing working, HRF presence and number of HRF with direct medical costs it was found with linear regression analysis. Conclusion: The number of HRF in this peruvian working population is related directly with health costs (Rev Med Hered 2006;17:90-95
