LLANOS ZAVALAGA, Luis Fernando; MAYCA PEREZ, Julio  e  NAVARRO CHUMBES, Gian Carlos. Perceptions in relationship to the quality of care related to HAART among persons living with a diagnosis of HIV-AIDS. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2006, vol.17, n.3, pp.156-169. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objectives: To describe the perceptions of patients living with HIV-AIDS (PVVS) about healthcare and quality of care in highly active anti-retroviral therapy (TARGA) at a national public hospital at Lima. Material and methods: A qualitative-quantitative descriptive study was done at STD/HIV-AIDS hospital service. In the quantitative study, a questionnaire based on previous ones (Quote-HIV and Servqual), was applied on a random sample of 85 PVVS. The questionnaire included around 50 questions divided in seven dimensions: Tangible aspects, time, treat, service description, patient-health personnel relationship, information access, capacity of resolution, treatment itself. In the qualitative study, 02 focus groups were done on PVVS and providers, including the following dimensions: Norms and its implementation, healthcare supply, laboratory supply, demand. Results: Percentages of satisfaction were around 30% on tangible aspects, 80% on time, treat, and service description, 50% on patient-health personnel relationship, 75% on information access, 60% on capacity of resolution, and 85% on treatment itself. In the qualitative study poor knowledge about norms and its implementation, mid satisfaction on healthcare supply (higher on human resources and lower on infrastructure) and lab supply, and a need on information on the demand side. Discussion: It is necessary to maintain the political will that guarantee the continuity of TARGA, improve access, capacity of resolution and multidisciplinary teams related to this treatment.
