Abstract
CRUZADO DIAZ, Lizardo; KRUGER MALPARTIDA, Hever and BORDA OLIVOS, Félix. Psychogenic polydipsia complicated with hyponatremia and rhabdomyolysis: A case report. . Rev Med Hered [online]. 2006, vol.17, n.3, pp.183-186. ISSN 1018-130X.
We report a male patient with schizophrenia who, because of a case of psychogenic polydipsia, developed altered consciousness and seizures, with findings of severe hiponatremia and raising of creatinine phosphokinase enzime (CPK), compatible with rhabdomyolysis. We state that psychogenic polydipsia, and its effect of hyponatremic encefalopathy, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any patient that presents with altered consciousness or seizures.
