Abstract

VALENZUELA RODRIGUEZ, Germán; MENDO URBINA, Fernando  and  ESPICHAN GAMBIRAZZIO, Miguel. Prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in Peruvian patients with HIV infections in HAART. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2007, vol.18, n.1, pp.10-14. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in a peruvian cohort of patients with HIV in HAART. Material and methods: We undertook an observational study between January and April 2006, in ambulatory patients of Hospital Rebagliati-ESSALUD-Perú. Results: In 276 patients, we found a prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors as follows: Hypertension in 3.26%, diabetes in 1.81%, dyslipidaemia in 34.05%, smoking in 3.96% and obesity in 4.71%. In patients who had received protease inhibitors levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides were higher (p NS). 4.16% of this population had a high score of cardiovascular risk according with Framinghan tables. Conclusions: The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factor in our cohort was low with exception of the prevalence of dyslipidaemia that was high, and there were found higher levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides in the subpopulation of patients who receive protease inhibitors.(Rev Med Hered 2007;18:10-14).
