FAUSTINO ARIAS, Delia Margot; TAPIA ESCARCENA, Nielsen  e  BENITO ARAGON, Germán. Lipids profile in children and adolescent sportsmen in Peru. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2007, vol.18, n.1, pp.22-27. ISSN 1018-130X.

Lipids in sportsmen represent the main energy reserve and an almost inexhaustible source of energy during the resistance training. Only in aerobic sports the energy demand sub products that originate fatigue does not take place. Objectives: To describe the lipids profile in children and adolescent sportsmen of the team of swimming and tae kwon do of the Club de Regatas Lima. Material and methods: A prospective, descriptive and transversal study was carried out. Total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides of 77 sportsmen was tested; in a sample of venous blood after 12 hours of nocturnal fasting and after 72 hours before finished the pre-competitive training. The lipids dosage was carried out using the colorimetric final point enzymatic method. To interpret the results, they were classified in three levels: Desirable, borderline and non desirable. Results: A mean value of total cholesterol of 172.57±27.79 mg/dl was found in the 77 evaluated. HDL-C was 56.01±1.01 mg/dl, LDL-C was 94.61±24.56% mg/dl, and triglycerides 56.23 ±18.69% mg/dl, 85.7% sportsmen had HDL-C in the desirable level 93.5% of them had triglycerides in the desirable level and 49.4% total cholesterol in desirable level. Not significant differences in the values of the groups of swimming and tae kwon do were found, with exception of the HDL-C in adolescent group.(Rev Med Hered 2007;18:22-27).
