Resumen

FUERTES ASTOCONDOR, Luis et al. Surgical site infection: comparing two different techniques. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2009, vol.20, n.1, pp.22-30. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objectives: To asses the frequency and factors associated with the surgical site infection (SSI) comparing two different techniques in cholecystectomyzed patients. Material and methods: Prospective cohort study. We included 62 cases for the exposed to laparotomy and 95 cases for the no exposed to laparotomy (but exposed to laparoscopy). The sample size was calculated with EPIINFO Program with a confidence level (1-) of 95% and power (1-) of 80%. The patient was comparable in age and sex. Results: Most of the patients were among 26 and 65 years old, 77,42% in the laparotomy group and 74,74% in laparoscopic group were female. The frequency of SSI with the laparotomy was 11,29% and with laparoscopy was 4,21%, (p= 0,089). In the laparotomy group, the hospitalization in the A Service had RR: 10,498, Ic: 1,178-99,52, (p= 0,035). In the laparoscopies group the obesity had RR: 22,591, Ic: 1,316 - 387,835, (p= 0,082), the more than four days postoperative stance had RR: 29,201, Ic: 1,217 - 700,51, (p= 0,087). Conclusions: The difference of frequency of SSI in both groups was not significant. The factors associated with SSI for laparotomy was the hospitalization in "A" Service and with laparoscopy were the obesity and the more than four days postoperative stance.
