Abstract

LLERENA GARCIA, Giovanna; LOPEZ LAM, Tania Paloma  and  MIYAHIRA ARAKAKI, Juan. Immunosuppressive therapy in Idiopathic Membranous Nephropathy. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2009, vol.20, n.2, pp.60-69. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objective: To evaluate response to combined therapy in Idiopathic Membranous Nephropathy (MN) patients according to Ponticelli’s therapy scheme, determining 24 hour urine protein remission rate, the evolution of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and frequency of adverse effects. Material and methods: Observational descriptive study, serial cases type in Idiopathic MN patients during 1995 and 2005, having received immunosuppressive therapy, according to Ponticelli’s scheme. We described non, complete or partial remission and the evolution of GFR. Results: Ten idiopathic MN patients fulfilled the selection criteria. Half of the cases had partial remission (PR) and there was not complete remission (CR) at the end of therapy. At the last control, 10% presented CR and 70% PR. Adverse effects were shown in 80% of patients. Conclusion: At the end of immunosuppressive therapy according to Ponticelli’s scheme, there was a 24 hour urine protein reduction (p>0,05), and at the last evaluation a 24 hr urine protein remission (p<0,05), probably associated to the use of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors. Adverse effects associated to immunosuppressive therapy are frequently found, although none of the patients discontinued therapy because of them. (Rev Med Hered 2009;20:60-69).
