CONSTANTINO-CERNA, Antero; BOCANEGRA-MALCA, Milagros; LEON-JIMENEZ, Franco  e  DIAZ-VELEZ, Cristian. Frequency of anxiety and depression in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus attended in a general hospital in Chiclayo. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2014, vol.25, n.4, pp.196-203. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objectives: To estimate the frequency of anxiety and depression as well as their association with glycemic control among type 2 diabetic patients attended in a general hospital in Chiclayo. Methods: Cross-sectional study. A total of 270 patients were included between 19 and 60 years of age who attended the outpatient clinic of the endocrinology service at Hospital Nacional Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo. Beck´s surveys for anxiety-depression were used as well as an ad-hoc form for data capture. Absolute and relative frequencies were calculated, and inferential analysis was performed calculating prevalence rates and 95% confidence intervals. Results: Mean age was 52 ± 6,5 years; 172 patients were females (64%). Depression was found in 156 patients (57,78%), anxiety was found in 176 patients (65,19%). No association was found between glycemic control and depression and anxiety (RP = 0,94, 95CI% 0,83-1,07, p >0,05) and (RP = 0,95, 95CI% 0,77-1,16, p >0,05), respectively. Conclusions: A high frequency of anxiety and depression was found among type 2 diabetic patients in this setting, glycemic control does not correlate with these frequencies.
