JASSO-HUAMAN, Luis Eduardo; VILLENA-PACHECO, Arturo  y  GUEVARA-LINARES, Ximena. Metabolic control in diabetic patients attended as outpatients in a general hospital. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2015, vol.26, n.3, pp.167-172. ISSN 1018-130X.

Objective: To describe the degree of metabolic control based on fasting glucose levels, glycated hemoglobin levels(HbA1C), blood pressure values and lipid profile in type 2 diabetic patients attended as outpatients in a general hospital. Methods: A retrospective study was carried-out reviewing the clinical charts of 107patients. Demographic data, history of cardiovascular disease, disease duration, and number of medical controls per year, anthropometric variables, glycated hemoglobin, lipid profile and blood pressure weregathered. The degree of metabolic control was established by measuring HbA1C,LDL cholesterol and blood pressure. Results: 51.4% of diabetic patients had a basal glucose level between 80 and 130 mg/dl; 31.8% had glycated hemoglobin levels below 7%; and 40.2% had triglycerides below 150 mg/dl. Systolic blood pressures below 130 mmHg were observed in 51.4% and 73.8% had diastolic blood pressures below 80 mmHg. Only9.3% had adequate metabolic control. Conclusions: Only 9.3% of type 2 diabetic patients attained adequate metabolic control according to therecommendations of the American Diabetic Association.
