ASENJO-ALARCON, José Ander. Relationship between lifestyle and metabolic control in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus from Chota, Peru. Rev Med Hered [online]. 2020, vol.31, n.2, pp.101-107. ISSN 1018-130X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.20453/rmh.v31i2.3771.

Lifestyles were determined with the IMEVID questionnaire and metabolic control with an adapted diagnostic interpretation guide from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Absolute and relative frequencies were determined, the chi square of independence and gamma coefficient with a confidence level of 95%.

Results:

Patients had an unfavourable lifestyle (45.1%), overweight (43.1%), elevated abdominal perimeter (53.9%), hyperglycaemia (62.7%), elevated LDL-C (79.4%), decreased HDL-C (59.8%), high triglycerides (61.8%) and poor metabolic control of the disease (61.8%).

Conclusions:

The majority of patients had an unfavourable lifestyle, there is a direct and highly significant relationship between the lifestyle and the metabolic control of patients; the unfavourable lifestyle was associated with poor metabolic control of the disease (p = 0.000).
