Abstract
MILLA-TORRES, Daniela and GARCIA-LINARES, Sixto. Evaluation of plasmatic fibrinogen in patients with periodontal disease . Rev. Estomatol. Herediana [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.4, pp.256-262. ISSN 1019-4355.
Objective: Evaluates if the presence of periodontal disease increases fibrinogen´s level, to add evidence on the causal relationship between periodontal and cardiovascular diseases. Methods: A total of 40 individuals were evaluated divided in 4 groups: control (n = 10), localized periodontal disease (n = 15) and generalized periodontal disease (n = 15). Results: The patients with periodontal disease have significantly higher fibrinogen levels compared to healthy patients (VP = 333.3 mg / dL ± 41.8) (P <0.05). Conclusions: The presence of periodontal disease increases the concentration of plasma fibrinogen, and can affirm the premise that periodontal disease is an independent risk indicator for the development of cardiovascular events.
