Abstract

CARRASCO-LOYOLA, Milagros; LANDAURO-SAENZ, Alexis  and  OREJUELA-RAMIREZ, Francisco. Associated factors with the use of dental services in a peruvian university dental clinical. Rev. Estomatol. Herediana [online]. 2015, vol.25, n.1, pp.27-35. ISSN 1019-4355.

Objective: To evaluate some of the factors that might be associated with the use of the services of a Peruvian university dental clinic. Methods: The study design was retrospective and cross-sectional, and clinical records of 91 patients who attended the diagnostic service of the Dental clinic of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) during the months of August 2009 to July 2010 were assessed. The Diagnostic Service database was analyzed to collect information which was processed in SPSS version 10. Results: The proportion of patients evaluated at the Department of Diagnostic who were employed and used the services of the Teaching Hospital of the UPCH was 61.5%, with an average age of 29.1 years (sd = 21.1; min = 2 ; max = 86), mostly female (74.7%) and students (42.9%). The age group evaluated at diagnosis in greater proportion was 26-45 years (29.7%), followed by less than or equal to one year of age (28.6%). Factors associated with the use of dental services were age (p = 0.010) and last visit to the dentist (p = 0.047). Conclusions: The associated factors found were: age of the patient and the last visit to the dentist. Having self-employment and going to the dentist for the first time or before 6 months from the last date were predisposing factors and patients were more likely to focus on dental services.
